German Brewing

So I just got back from the bottle shop and picked up a mixed 6 pack:

Augustiner Edelstoff
Bitburger Pils
Jever Pils
Wurzburger Pils
Ayinger Brauweisse
Hofbrau OG

Any thoughts? The only one I cracked so far is Edelstoff. Having a tough time placing the nose, really unique. It surprised me though that the head retention was bad. I don't know if travel affected it but somehow my single infusion homebrew is holding up better in the same glass. Could be a higher carbonation level.

Solid beer though, looking forward into revisiting the rest although I'm a little scared of the green bottles on some.

You really don't want to pour Edelstoff for a frothy head. I noticed it destroys the flavours a bit. A nice slow pour with a tilted glass is best.

It's a funny bottle though. No idea whether the brewery supplies it like this or whether it was bottled by the importer.

Yea, I noticed the label was different. Could be the importer since the back label had the importers name stamped. I'll give a slow pour a try next time.

Brandon - It was smaller, 11.2oz. Only the Ayinger & Bitburger are .5l from my run last night. See you're in PA, scooped them up from The Foodery (they have 3 shops in Phila). Nice place.

Maybe its the cans, but I feel like both Radeberger and Warsteiner are underrated in the world of German beer appreciation. Subtle but sublime. What say you German beer abschätzers?
