Made it over to Victory tonight...

They had a Brett Dry Hopped Pilsner on tap. It was not very good, thought you guys would have a chuckle at that, remember these guys were trained at Weinstephan and their Pils is beloved by the rating sites. Their festbeer (decocted vienna & munich) is the grainiest beer I've ever tasted, can't make up my mind if I like it.

On a related note tho, I had a fresh Yuengling Lager on tap with my Primo Hoagie for dinner on South St. last night (Brandon probably can relate as a PA man). This beer had it. First sip's after taste was lingering raw grain on the top of the mouth. First time I thought about it, palate shift maybe.

Ever make it up to this guy's place? I heard him do a radio interview a while back and it sounds like he is a relatively knowledgeable brewer (though I have no idea if he's retaining It).

http://freewillbrewing.com/ He has a huge sour/wild program, and I do like wild ales when they're made well and aged/blended properly.

That one and Tired Hands always intrigued me. Worthwhile? I may be down in Philly for work in the next few months.

Prima Pils is the best beer Victory makes. And I don't think its that good. Passable, sure, but give me a fresh Radeburger, Warsteiner or Jever pils any day over that...

Yuengling absolutely has it. What Brandon is referring to is my pouring technique. I dump it straight down the center of the glass so it foams like crazy. Let that foam fall back, then pour some more. This knocks a lot of the carbonation out, since American lagers are always over carbonated, and really opens up the maltiness.

By the way, these statements apply to just about every other American lager too, especially the small ones

I almost forgot (I took the day off to cut down a tree and clean up my brewing gear but it's been raining...I still need to try to go be productive.

"fresh Radeburger, Warsteiner or Jever pils any day over that..." - while I haven't had Warsteiner in a while, I have not experienced anything like Radeberger and Jever in the US. Not even close. You could say Victory Prima and Firestone Walker Pivo are equal in intensity, but to me it tastes like an overcompensation of hops to adjust for lack of malt and mineral/tank taste characteristics.

yeah, Pivo is a solid American craft beer (and a cut above Prima), but Radeberger for me is another league. Perfect blend of floral hops and burying your head in a grain silo. Then Jever, then Warsteiner, then Bitburger (which borders on pithy/astringent for my palette).

I would like to try the Trumer Pils brewed in the US. I haven't seen it around here, I likely need to make a trip to the Bay Area.
