When I sampled it, it had a VERY pronounced perfumey character, mainly rose.

Re: Capturing that German Beer Flavor
I've had what I believe are 2 (or more) different versions.
The first one I had was terrible, caramel-dosed, overhopped, US crap.
The second & third ones were good & had some of the flavor we're talking about.

This year's S. N. Oktoberfest was brewed with Brauhaus Riegele of Augsburg and I like better than what Sam Adams produced.
I also tasted Ayinger's Oktoberfest and I liked the S. N. better. Perhaps I'm not a great judge of "that German Beer Flavor". LOL

Be wary of a comparison, when variables are not met.

Re: Capturing that German Beer Flavor
I was stationed in stuttgart germany from 87 to 91 I drank stuttgarter hofbrau, currently I purchase and consume hofbrau original which I feel is so close per my memory of stuttgarter hofbrau that I would be perfectly content to duplicate it's flavor and continue to make batch after batch, and keep my Supply stocked up forever.
I have no real input, as I am new to brewing, but the bug to achieve this flavor, will drive me to the end of my budget, or earth, which ever comes first.
