O'Zapft Is - German Competition

Postby lupulus » Sun Oct 02, 2016 10:12 am

I normally do not brag, but quite happy I got 9 medals at the O'Zapft Is competition. :D
Now, need to analyze the scores when they come in the mail.
Some of the beers that placed were brewed without scavengers and batch sparged, some no-sparge with Brewtan B plus SMB, and some no-sparge with SMB.
Same beers are going to the Dixie cup but they are a month older.
I'll report if I see a pattern.
Prost,
Ricardo

Congrats on the medals! :tu

IME, it'll depend greatly on the judges at the table. I've had arguments with judges (I'm BJCP National) at tables bc they thought the oxidized beer had more flavor and preferred it. Bamforth found the same thing with lite American lagers.

I think I'm up to 50-ish medals since going lodo, and I can't see much of a pattern. I hope your experience is different.

Congrats. Good luck with the testing, comps can be a crap shoot. From another bjcp judge.
Sure wish I had the time and money to enter comps again.
