Without a doubt the best strain I've ever used for LoDO brewing.

Re: Bavarian Monastery Yeast
Supposedly andechs, but it matters little imo since the yeast will behave differently in our small fermenters than it does for them, and there's bound to be some mutation every time the yeast changes hands.
I love Ayinger's and Weihenstephner's beer, but I dislike WLP833 and WLP830 for my own brewing.
I'd use yeast harvested from a hipster's beard if it gave good results

Wyeast sells the W34/70 strain under the name Bohemian lager (2124). Early books (16th century) claim the yeast used for bottom fermentation originated in Bohemia. It was popularized in Bavaria, then ultimately isolated as a monoculture in Nordic country. Welcome to the world of identifying lager yeast...

Add that that the undignifying task of figuring out which one of the White Labs products is actually the W34/70. There are conflicting reports of first stating it is WLP830 and later silently rectify to WLP820 (Mr Malty).
I'd trust the Wyeast equivalent more than the White Labs.
For those amongst us having access to the HBW products, the W109 looks like the best one for traditional Helles. I'll certainly give this one a go next.
