German Brewing

Asked Hofbrau if they had any tips for a homebrewer to brew something close to this beer and surprisingly they responded.

90/10 Pils/Munich (such as Briess Bonlander)
Magnum hops 50% at 58', 40% at 30', 10% at whirlpool
W34/70
Ferment at 9c 6 days, cool to 7c, krausen and mature at -1c
OG 11.8

I'm surprised by the Magnum hops, I was thinking something Nobel.

I know what I'm trying next weekend I have the Magnum hops sitting in the fridge

When did you send the email to them and how long did it take to get a reply back and if you wouldn't mind could I get that email I'm curious I'd like to send them the same email and see if I get the same reply

I've brewed helles using this grist before, although I used saaz and mittelfruh hops. It's quite nice.

Here's the email they sent me. All o asked is whether they could give me some tips on brewing Hofbrau Original. I also said I was looking forward to their collaboration brew with Leinenkugels for the 150 year anniversary.

thank you very much for your inquiry. Well, brewing a beer with a long brewing tradition in as a home brewer might be quite a difficult project. However,
we will provide you with some informations about the brewing details:

We use about 90% barley malt and 10% munich malt (quite similar in the US is Briess bonlander).
Hops: 50% 58‘ BKO Magnum, 40% 30‘ BKO and 10% added into the whirlpool.
The brew is coming out with 11,8% o.g.
Our bottom fermenting yeast is W34/70
Fermentation at 9°C, about 6 days; cooling to 7°C, 10% Kräusen, Maturation another 5 days at 9°C, storage -1,5°C for 3 weeks.

As a matter of fact, it’s very difficult to produce similar beers without using the same brewhouse equipment and vessels.

I'm pretty sure they filter so I think it may be wise to cut back the Munich a tad. They didn't say anything about IBUs so I sent a reply for that info,

The email in that format and that much information makes me believe they're not trying to hide it so I will not email them as of yet I will be looking forward to further information that you may get from them as I would love to try and Brew this myself

It was very interesting how he mentioned about brewing in a certain type of vessel now I'm really anxious to get my book from plb because I know that there's a section or two in there that describes certain vessels
