I found that spraying isn't really necessary. i pour it in batches over an inverse cooking ladle. Mix, then "rinse and repeat".

It does the job and is easier to handle.

Simpler to dose as well.

Dry husk is very water hungry. A bit of mixing and small batches.

Job done

Why would synchronised gears improve the original intend , I would dare to ask?

From my perspective, a receiving vessel below, purged with cO2 and mixing the grain with water (at 62-3C) would be far more beneficial.

Most of the ingress happens at dough-in (looking at Narziss' original published figures).

On the other had, do we really care?

The revival of SMB in the mash is short of a stroke of genious in my books. It's an incredibly elegant solution and Tech has a beautiful grasp on the issues. TBF, we owe this guy a lot!

The way I look at it, it should reduce the sheer on the grain husk. For me when malt conditioning the idler roller will often stall and stop feeding grain (which is a royal pain). Never really had this issue with dry malt. Have tried cleaning and lubing the bushings, did not fix it.

O_o

I never had that problem with mine.

Considering how expensive these MM mills are, I would find this quite upsetting.

I find the mills from Matthias hard to beat for the price

Around 150-160.- €

The results.
I do think just dumping the conditioning water on top of the malt bill works just as good if not better than trying to spray it.
