no, I imagine it will take a decent amount of insulation to remain at temperature for a full mash. I wish I would just get one of those lids

I wonder if the plastic tubing that seals the lid would be ok at mash temps? These are meant for storing wine at cellar temperatures. It would be worth inquiring before buying. They also have floating oil lids, which may be useful, ranging from 360 - 990 mm. These have no air-seal, and would need to closely fit the mash-tun diameter. As an example, you can fit the 360mm lid into their 370mm 35L pot.
I'm using a stainless steel dog-bowl as my mash cap, with some silicone tubing around the edge to assist with air-sealing.
Another interesting item is the motorized pot - reminiscent of Weizenberg's mash system. It may be possible to use a floating lid with this setup also.

Food safe plastics need to be able to handle quite high temperatures in order for them to be sanitized with hot water or with steam even. There are a lot of suppliers that do these variable capacity fermentation lids. I am sure that these are sold in the US as well, especiall in the wine making industry.

You can give it a go.

As far as I am concerned, it's Nitrogen the way things are going.
