Mill Recommendations

I'm looking for a solid mill and was thinking about the barley crusher but don't know too much about the brand. Any recommendations?

I'm very happy with Monster. The bigger the rollers the better; stainless if you can spring for it.

Indeed, bigger rollers are favourable. Most of these are turning at 170-200 RPM. Professional two roller wet mills use rollers with a diameter of 400 mm.

Crazy, I bought 3 sacks of malt (Weyerman Pils, Pale Ale, and Carahell), a mill, and paid $80 in shipping... yet the total price per pound (including shipping and mill) was less than what I'd pay at the LHBS.

I haven't seen the analysis yet but asked the merchant - turns out the Pilsner is 2.2srm (so 4.3 ebc) so maybe no pale ale malt was needed after all. IIRC Bryan was saying blend to target 4 ebc.

I wish I saw that option for Carahell, 55# will last me a long time.

But since I have to drive roughly an hour each way to get to a shop that sells Carahell it seemed worthwhile.

There's a shop like less than a mile down the road from me (Philly Homebrew Outlet East) but not much in the way of variety for a lager man. Mostly Breiss stuff but also Avanguard Pilsner and Simpsons Golden Promise.

Lol, yea lifetime supply of Carahell.

I may make an all Pale Ale Malt lager to get a good understanding for the flavor.
