I had these micro solar pumps fail quite fast on me. They are not good pumps tbh. One is better off with the Chugger/March types.

The beefy one I've used for over 6 years now is this one

They can be run dry (contrary to what brouwland says, and they are self-priming (as long as there is a bit of liquid in the impeller).

The all stainless head is a boon, the pump is also reversible. Sadly, I've never seen them with bypass. With bypass the one from Hoyer is the only sensible alternative unless one wants to spend a lot more (any other links to decent pumps welcome!). A bypass is great for regulating flow rates.

Usually they come with hose-barbs, mounted on 3/4" BSP threads. The pressure mine delivers is 2 BAR max -- which makes is useful as pump for DE or sheet filtration. The downside is that one may need to re-think the inlets which really should be 3/4" not 1/2" tubing and fittings.

Restricting flow electrically is an advantage of these DC pumps but I didn't notice much more noise or heat generated with 50% flow restriction.

If you convert the frequency, then you can control speed without loss of power. I know of quite a few people regulating pump speed this way

I regulate the speed of my main agitator this way (24V)

When I switch to DC valves I'll be using a voltage regulator on my little pump(s).
