Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbeer

Postby Big Monk » Sat Jul 09, 2016 8:28 pm

In one of my previous posts, "I want to brew 6 beers...", I stated how I was not a fan of Hefe. In short, my dislike has always been an overbearing characteristic yeast flavor of Hefe that did not agree with me.

Well, leave it to Weihestephaner to change my mind. This was a delicious example of the style. Huge, mousse like foam stand. Spicy, clove aroma. Restrained Hefe yeast character with light clove flavor. A real knockout and a game changer for me as far as now being able to seek out a Hefe flavor I enjoy.

Bottle was date 3rd week of February, 2016.

Commercial examples have much more restrained yeast character than homebrew versions.

I've never had a homebrew Hefe. I must be referencing American interpretations.
