English translation

Are there english translations of classic German brewing texts? Kunzel? Narziss?

Is there a way to use online translators to do it yourself?

Kunze is already translated and available from the VLB. Narziss, is not, and you will have to translate it. Google translate can get you pretty close.

$75 for De Clerck's work is about the best price you'll find. I'm planning on getting it in a couple of months.

Kunze made a beautiful book which I wholeheartedly recommend. The extended version of Narziss latest work is also an incredible resource, but the electronic version for some reason isn't typeset as nice. Sadly it isn't available in other languages (which isn't a problem for me). I'd get the hard copy of tome 2 (if your level of German is sufficient).

Otherwise Kunze is an equally great book. I love the illustrations, graphs and pictures. A truly superb read for anyone looking to gain an in-depth understanding in the matter.

Just curious, why does no one cite Handbook of Brewing: Processes, Technology, Markets by Eßlinger.

Most of them have a substantial overlap and are quite consistent when it comes to the fundamentals. I found Kunze's book far more detailed and elaborate than Eßlinger.

For anyone interested in Herman brewing, Kunze is thes best book to have, even though Narziß and Back are my favourites. But they are the cherry on the cake and with a strong bias towards Bavarisn styles. Kunze is a lot easier to read and the illustrations and insights are beautiful. It is also available in English - whereas Narziß and Back's books are not.

Kunze's book belongs in every library serious about the production of German beer.
