Re: Kolsch Brewday Report
The amount of oxygen released is secondary the effect of elemental aluminum (multiple oxidative states and reactivity) released into the wort. It will catalyze the creation of superoxide, making the DO highly reactive. It's not as reactive as iron and copper, but we've generally advocated erring on the side of caution based on reaction principles.

This is where, a dose of SMB on brewday in conjunction with brewtan B could be beneficial. "Supposedly" brewtan is to not allow the superoxides to form.. Or so I gather....( Insert Denny Quote here) " I didn't really READ the info".

Agreed, would also eliminate the need for RO water due to cation concerns.

SMB, Vit C, Brewtan B and mash hopping may be the best cocktail for homebrewers to prevent oxidation during the mash. We need to find out how much Bamforth used in his trials with ascorbic acid.

Re: Kolsch Brewday Report
is there any way you could use tri-clovers instead of QD's? QD's aren't exactly cheap, and for a few more bucks you can some really good quality hardware that will hold up. We upgraded all of our connects to triclovers a few years ago after one too many swear words uttered at the clunky QD's.
There's no easy way out. There's no shortcut home.

I got camlocks, which I have pretty much only seen positive reviews. The normal ball lock QD's are the worst, yes, but tri-clamps are pretty expensive all things considered.
