What is the consensus on mash recirculation? Are you only recirculating when adding heat or doing it throughout the entire mash?

I'm just trying to brainstorm on the electrical diagram for my new system. If recirculation lasts the duration of the mash I can just wire the pump to an on/off switch and leave it running. If only using it during periods when heat is being added, I can wire it to an auto/manual switch so it can kick on in conjunction with my heat source or be manually operated.

I only pump when adding heat and during mash out. On my next system, I plan to have my pump set to kick on and off based on temperature.

Maybe an delay off type solenoid switch might be a good idea to turn the pump off a few minutes after the heat source to protect from hot spots.
I also get better performance and longer times between pump runs by insulating the kettle. I use 2" wide roll ceramic pipe insulation which works great. Just wrap it around a few times secure with a paper clip. Then remove after the mash before cleaning to keep it clean. Store rolled up in a bag.

Pump the entire time.
