Alternative to Stainless Coil

Postby gglucky13 » Thu Jun 30, 2016 6:37 pm

I don't have a stainless steel coil and I was thinking of ways to still exclude O2 from my hot side process until I decided whether to go the distance and buy a SS coil.

First idea was to process the water as usual by boiling and then possibly add some SMB and gently keg the water and purge/put the keg on CO2 pressure while it cools. I know there is a pretty good chance that the glue could come loose on the top and bottom of the keg but that doesn't really bother me if the method would work.

Second would be to store my copper coil in starsan to remove the oxide layer and then use it to chill the strike water.

Do either of these methods seem reasonable? Has anyone who owns a DO meter tried anything like this who has experience they can share?

The full proof way as recommended is to use stainless.

Prices are reasonable.
