Oddly enough I didn't have much problems with lagers at that dose... but then they tend to disappear in the lager chamber for a few months.
With wheat beers/ales its andifferent story. There the dose definitively needs to be lower. About 40 mg for me.
PS: I did a Weizen with pre-boil but no SMB once. It's ok but I concluded finding the minimum dose for ones setup gives a better result
