Correct Purge with Beer Gun / Bottling Workarounds

Postby mpietropaoli » Tue May 03, 2016 11:05 am

So of course I sold my beer gun since I didn't think there was any noticeable improvement from the 'low-flow-slow-down-the-side' method of bottling off a keg.

Assuming one had a Blichmann beer gun, could you do the same process to purge a keg (fill bottle with sanitizer, then CO2-purge from bottom). I suppose unless under pressure, the gases will still mix inside the bottle while filling.

On a side note, has anyone taken DO readings with O2-absorbing crowns vs. standard liners? I did a side-by-side on an aged Biere de garde a few years back, and since then, have sworn by O2-crowns.

While I'm guessing my beers will be consumed relatively quickly if we can nail this process, I do still like to package in bottles and/or growlers for portable beer, giveaways and the occasional comp.
There's no easy way out. There's no shortcut home.
