Tech mentioned today/recently about Sanke kegs. Is there any reason not to buy a bunch of kegs and parts and switch?

Or would it be better to source and use European styles kegs? Are they readily available in the US?

I have been thinking about this all day.

7.75 gallon keg for fermenting, the orange carboy caps can fit right on top, or I have heard that they can accept half of a 2" triclamp fitting. So I could silver solder some tubes for an airlock/gas-in and then liquid out to transfer on a triclamp plate.

Attach a sanke tap with the check valve removed and boom, close transfers for cheap.

I am split between this and a 6 gallon corny for fermentation.

Can someone enlighten me, what would be the reason for the switch?

Don't you need some sort of cleaning device? Would probably loose the ability to get your arm in there and scrub it out when needed.

I can't get my arm in a corny keg.
I recently built a keg & carboy cleaner that I freaking LOVE!!!
I'll have to make a post about it, when I get home.

The 20l kegs are quite a bit wider than cornys. So if yours fit neatly in the freezer then you may only be able to accommodate much less.

Sankey is actually not a keg. It's a spear and fitting type (S-Type) they are quite popular in the UK for eg but harder to keep clean. In Germany the flat fitting (A-Type) spears are more popular since easier to maintain and remove.

I hate corny kegs with a passion. I never really warmed to that whole dispense system with these awful thread sizes. But they are very slim and for nearly into standard freezers.

Kegs are easier to flush and purge fro O2 though (more advantageous shape) but I am not sure I've exhausted all the options for purging O2 from corneys for dispense just yet.

I would think very hard re-fitting my containers before committing to this expense.
