Weyermann Barke Malt
I spent a long time chasing that perfect Pilsner malt. I've gone through every pima I could find this last year or so, Swaen, Weyermann, Weyermann Bohemian, Sladovney, Franco Belge, Schill, Meussdorffer, Avangard, Dingemans, Castle, Cargill Idaho, and I'm absolutely sold on Bestmalz pima.

Well, that's encouraging. Northern Brewer was were out of Barke Pils when I visited Northern Brewer, so I picked up a sack of Bestmaltz. I did get some Barke for my festbier that I brewed yesterday. But I look forward to working through this sack.

Watch the pH with BestMalz.

Re: Weyermann Barke Malt
I'm on my 3rd sac, and I haven't seen any pH issues. It does come in ~0.1 lower than most other Pilsner malts, so I use 1% less sauermalt.

They've had some Pils lots contaminated with SauerMalz.

Yeah, I remember reading that a while back when I was on AHA. Three perfect sacs IME. No complaints.

Re: Weyermann Barke Malt
Why not just try a set amount for your brew before committing to it?
I did try it and really couldn't justify the expense. For me Shill Malz is literally half the price. It's not really a consideration, given my volumes, but why spend money on something I don't value?
The more interesting one would be the Vienna or the Munich in Barke. Especially the Munich looks really interesting at 20 EBC.
Your mileage may vary. It's all very subjective at this point. All of them are excellent Maltsers.
