Wild Hops - Style preference

Postby MaineBrewer » Sun Dec 20, 2015 12:23 pm

My wife's cousin had wild hops grown on her farm that she has picked, dried, and packaged 3oz for me.

I'm not completely sure what kind of beer would be best suited for these hops. I also have no idea what they smell like either yet (I'll be getting them Christmas day).
Since I don't know the AA content, I was going to relegate them to 20min or less in the boil. I am not sure yet if I will use all 3oz either.

The two styles that I came up with was an amber kellerbier or a weissbier. I figure if I did the weiss, I'd use only 1oz around the 10min mark. If I did the kellerbier, maybe up to 2oz.

If anyone has any thoughts/feedback it would be nice to hear.

Not a bad idea. There is actually a Maine malting company that sells pale 2-row to homebrew stores. Maybe pick up some of that and make a Maine Made Beer (malt, water, and hops anyway).

Yeah - probably best to at least wait and see what they smell like (if anything).
