Augstiner Edelstoff

Postby Brandon » Wed Oct 14, 2015 11:27 am

For the first post in this group, I'll post about a beer I bought a case of a few weeks ago. Augustiner Edelstoff. It's a Premium Helles, so brewed a little stronger than you would have local in Munich. It's a very light, lightly malty, low hopped Helles, but quite delicious. Easy to drink by the liter.

I was inspired by Nico, who runs the Quest for Edelstoff blog over here:

So, I am getting it right that instead of pouring a bottle at a time, you poured all three into a maß...
When I was getting a Maß , it was because the line at the biergarten was too long, or because they did not sell a halbe maß .
What's your excuse? :-)

Personally I think it just looks/feels better having properly full maß in your hand while drinking great German beers. Besides with those little bottles you know your going to have more then one.

Is a volle maß frowned upon? Guess I don't understand why the halbe maß is better. Aren't those for the women and children?

Besides, how else am I supposed to get a maß of Edelstoff in the States?!?!

I think he agrees with you, serving them in a Maß.

However, a Maß isn't used throughout Germany, it is very specific to Bavarian beer culture only.

Getting this wrong would immediately earn one the not so elusive denomination of:

It's probably analogous to Yankees serving sweet tea in mason jars, I get it. Be that as it may, sometimes ein glas ist nur ein glas...
