System alterations

Postby Crunk » Fri Mar 31, 2017 5:10 am

All my parts are in I'll be installing them this weekend, if I can get my nose out of the books I ordered. Lol

I'll pop up some pictures when I'm finished.

I feel like the quality of this post is pretty low, can you post some pictures of your system and maybe some ideas on how to fix oxygen pick up? I would love to see your brewing practices and how you adapt them in the coming months. I know I have changed a lot, definitely for the better even though I produced some of the worst (and a few of the best) beers in the last year.

I'll install the adaption today and I will certainly post pictures detailing everything as thorough as possible, I also have my inline wort aerator on the way, it arrives Monday.

Instead of a mash cap, and wort cap, I chose to have 2 custom 1/4" lexan lids made, because lexan won't shatter like plexiglass and it won't melt under 500°f this is basically a low pressure boiler as the pressure relief valves are set to 5lbs.

I am adding a little bit of piping and a sample port on the recirculation pipes to take ph samples. All my hoses are quick disconnect.

I run a 2 vessel system, one march pump for now, but I am anticipating adding another one, all liquid transfer is completed by the pump, and valves.

The only air exposure would be the small door on the top of each lid for adding hops, and or acid additions.
Both these doors are sealed and latched shut when not in use.

Pictures before and after will follow later today.

This is the First Step the layout the lead you see at the bottom with the black hole is going to be a gasket for a door for adding hops the handle of course and then the latch anchors

Here is the actual gasket that will go underneath and then I will mount my hop basket so that it is removable for cleaning purposes the hole in the center will be drilled out of the lid so that I am able to drop tops or acid additions through that hole with minimal Ingress

The three anchors around the outer edge will also be anchored down it looks identical to the anchor on the top where the door is at in between the lid and the kettle will be a rubber gasket so it seals the entire kettle then I can Purge it before I begin the Brew session

Finally done, I had to add a few more toggle clamps to take up any gaps that were in there

Are you planning on keeping a positive pressure in your kettle? I'm just thinking that if you do and your unable to completely purge all the O2, then you might actually increase diffusion into your solution.
